Let's face it, most of the music our kids are bombarded with is nothing but noise pollution, and like pollution it can have a less than desirable effect on those it lands on. While I won't sit here and write what your kids can and cannot listen to, there is some amazing music being produced that I think your kids and mine will really enjoy. here's a few to try...
"Meet the Rizers by The Rizers" Produced by Mars Hill Seattle, this CD rules! Love the music (a little 80's at times) and the lyrical content is solid.
Father's Day 2001 seems like an eternity ago for myself and I'm sure many of you, Amy and I were expecting our first born, unaware of it's sex as it wasn't as popular as it is now to spoil the surprise! there was an obvious excitment brewing in me as I prepared for the next chapter that was about to unfold in my life. Fast forward a few months to October 21, 2001 and we welcomed Judah Aaryn Jones into this world. That morning, as I'm becoming aware of right now, was an incredibly emotional time. My heart was struck with gratefulness, joy, anxiety and a bucketful of other emotions and responses.
As my first of what I pray will be many more decades of parenting draws to a close, at times I must confess I am more aware of my failures than God's grace that has been at work during this time. So what allows a shift in my focus? What defuses the tendency towards condemnation and anxiety? Simply said... The Gospel. the hope that we as believers can see and grasp ahold of is really the only thing that can keep any of us from retreating into despair.
The Gospel of Luke is a rich testimony to the life and teaching of Jesus Christ. For the next seven months, we will be going through this book as a church in order to learn more about Jesus. One thing we will notice again and again is how Jesus simply did not fit people's expectations of what the Messiah would be like. From His birth in a stable to His death on a criminal's cross, from His teaching about the Kingdom of God to His relationships with questionable characters, Jesus' life and teaching defied people's categories.
Romans 8 is one of the best-known and best-loved chapters in all of Scripture. It is teeming with life and promise and hope for all those who take the time to refresh themselves in its words. It is our prayer that this ten part sermon series in Romans 8 will renew and strengthen us as a church as we behold with fresh amazement all that is ours because of Christ.
For the next eight weeks we are going to be in the book of Psalms. We are calling this series in the Psalms, “An Anatomy of the Soul.” That title is taken from John Calvin who called the Psalms “an anatomy of every part of the soul.” In this book, every experience, every emotion, all the heights and depths, all the joys and sorrows, all the mysteries of human life are dealt with.
It's sad to admit this, but being critical and making negative, even uncharitable judgments about others, comes naturally to me. But guess what? The same is true of you! In his article, "Charitable Judgments: An Antidote To Judging Others," Ken Sande points out, "When Adam sinned, he corrupted the entire human race.
This week, all Crossway Care Groups will begin a DVD curriculum entitled “The Prodigal God” by Timothy Keller. I must admit, the book had been out for some time before I finally got a copy and began reading what I thought was simply an all too familiar story of the prodigal son from the Gospel of Luke. What I expected and what I was confronted with and convicted by went far beyond the story I remembered as a child.
Many months ago, myself, along with two web savvy members of our church began the task of creating a new Crossway website. Our previous site was getting a little dated and we all felt it was time for a fresh look. As I put the last few finishing touches in place, I have been humbled while reflecting at the amount of work these two men have put into what you see here before you today. Everytime I visit the site, upload content, write a blog post etc. I will thank the Lord for those who seek to serve His church by using the gifts God has given them.
