The Prodigal God

This week, all Crossway Care Groups will begin a DVD curriculum entitled “The Prodigal God” by Timothy Keller. I must admit, the book had been out for some time before I finally got a copy and began reading what I thought was simply an all too familiar story of the prodigal son from the Gospel of Luke. What I expected and what I was confronted with and convicted by went far beyond the story I remembered as a child. My greatest memory of the story then was a son losing all and sleeping in a pig-pen (I had an illustrated Bible as a child) and a dad who cooked some serious BBQ for a son returning home. Instead I found not only the younger brother in need of the Gospel, but I found an older brother in the same place. I pray that these next few months, as Timothy Keller addresses us on DVD and your Care Group Leader facilitates discussion, that you will begin viewing this parable as never before, desperate for God to reveal younger brother and older brother tendencies in our lives, exposed by the light of the glorious message of the Gospel. Enjoy the book, I truly have.
